Functional nanofibrous materials for high-temperature filtration will be developed and tested. Over the past few years, deaths worldwide have been attributed to particulate matter (PM). These clusters of particles pollute the air and primarily originate from human production activities, especially when they arise during high-temperature processes. However, most commercially available filters that are functional and effective even at high ambient temperatures can only capture particles larger than 10 µm. Compared to other commercial filters, nanofiber filters have superior air filtration performance and are able to capture particles smaller than 1 µm. Most nanofiber filters currently operate at normal temperatures. The goal of the presented project is to develop an effective nanofibrous material that can withstand temperatures above 150 °C.
