Self-cleaning coatings

New additive suitable for water-dilutable coatings was designed thanks to long-term experience with organic photoactive materials. This additive can be easily commercially prepared from renewable sources. The activation of its could be easily done by ordinary interior lights, e.g. LED lights. After its application to the treated surface, the additive protects the surface from adhering organic impurities and microbial attack. For example, the coating was applied in the Hejkal brewery in Nove Mesto in Moravia and has been protecting its walls from the formation of mould since its opening in 2018. During the entire period, no mould attack was observed on the walls, as is common in similar premises.

These highly gentle self-cleaning systems have great potential in a wide range of surface finishes. Currently, this potential is being gradually developed together with industrial partners, and new products are being prepared for market launch.
